Ancient builders used ramps and logs to move massive stones, another example of technological advancement. Inventors added electric motors creating power tools, even more examples of technological advances. The Industrial Revolution profoundly influenced technological changes, including new building materials, new energy sources, and new machines, which changed the face of building construction. The digital age brought about even more technological changes affecting how we live and almost everything we do in more recent times. Technology in construction continues to advance rapidly. Recent examples include 3D scanning, computer-aided design, building information modeling, algorithmic design, artificial intelligence, and robotic applications. This course will survey some of the most recent technological advances and explain how to successfully utilize them in the construction industry.
