Course Description:
The Minnesota Mandatory Course covers both contractor business strategies and energy conservation measures, as required for license renewal for the state of Minnesota. This course begins with a discussion basic accounting principles such as assets, liabilities, the ability to manage cash flow, revenue recognition, financial management, mitigating bad debt, and tax compliance as it relates specifically to residential general contractors. The second portion of the course explores net zero energy and the relationship between modern construction and sustainability.
Objectives:
At the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Describe interest and methods of debit and credit documentation, and discuss cash flow, financial statements, including their associated benefits.
- Compare and contrast three common accounting methods and discuss the benefits associated with the use of each method.
- Explain the concept of net zero energy and its relationship with modern construction.
- Evaluate the impact of construction on the environment and apply building design concepts based on net zero for both current and future projects.
