Course Description
This course will investigate the opportunities for general contractors to address the needs and challenges when building structures and communities in the aftermath of natural disasters. This course provides a holistic approach to disaster recovery. We begin with the hard science of structural integrity, analyzing how natural forces like seismic waves and hurricane-force winds impact materials. However, a safe building is only the first step. Learners will dive deep into the effects of displacement, the three-fold timeline of rebuilding, and the ethical responsibility of contractors to foster both physical and social health by design.
