As of January 1, 2020, North Carolina licensed general contractors are now required to complete continuing education, beginning with 2021 license renewals. It is important to meet all of the renewal requirements, otherwise your license will be invalid, which can lead to business interruptions. You can also avoid any potential late fees by ensuring that your continuing education and license renewal are done on time.
As continuing education is new for North Carolina contractors, it may be confusing to understand the process and requirements at first. This guide will help you navigate the CE requirements for your contractor license renewal.
What are the requirements?
North Carolina contractors must complete 8 hours of continuing education each year, meaning you will need to complete 8 hours by November 30, 2020, for your 2021 license renewal.
The 8-hour continuing education requirement includes a 2-hour mandatory course, produced by the North Carolina Licensing Board for General Contractors (NCLBGC). The remaining 6 hours can be elective courses approved by the Board.
Taking Your Required CE Courses, the Easy Way
PDH Academy is happy to offer full 8-hour courses that allow you to fulfill the continuing education requirements for you license renewal. All our courses are taught live by professionals in the contractor industry and have limited attendance to ensure all students are able to understand the course material. We recommend you sign up for your continuing education as early as possible to be sure to complete the required hours before courses fill up.
PDH Academy offers full 8-hour CE package for North Carolina contractors for 2020 in both online and classroom formats. Courses covered for your 2021 license renewal include:
- NCLBGC’s Mandatory Course (2 Hours)
- Current Construction Methods and Materials Elective Course (4 Hours)
- Job Site Housekeeping Elective Course (2 Hours)
Renewing Your North Carolina Contractor License
Once you complete your 8 hours of continuing education, either by webinar or classroom, you will receive a certificate of completion that you should maintain for your records. PDH Academy will report your completed continuing education hours to the NCLBGC for you, but you will need to fill out an application for renewal with the Board.
