Course Description:
This course begins with a review of the basic management requirements of starting an efficient construction project, then discusses the key factors for clear and concise coordination as it relates to day to day operations, including property protection, health and safety, maximization of profit, property inspection, and marketing ideas. The second portion of the course focuses on the rapid advancements of technology in construction. Recent examples include 3D scanning, computer-aided design, building information modeling, algorithmic design, artificial intelligence, and robotic applications. The course will survey some of the most recent technological advances and explain how to successfully utilize them in the construction industry.
Objectives:
At the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Summarize office and site management strategies during the life of the project.
- Determine methods for site and property protection, including the health and safety of all who operate on the property.
- Analyze best business practices for profit protection and predict most common construction project roadblocks.
- Describe the design processes using computer-aided design, building information modeling, algorithmic design, and artificial intelligence, and explore the history of construction technology.
- Explain the currently available robotic resources for constructing a building.
- Explore possible applications of future technologies in the construction industry.
